Today, April 17, Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) submitted its first report to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) as part of its efforts to monitor the situation of women’s rights in Libya and advocate internationally before international mechanisms.<\/gwmw><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This step comes 35 years after Libya’s accession to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1989, pledging to promote gender equality and protect women’s rights. However, Libya faces immense challenges in achieving this goal, especially in light of the successive crises that have plagued the country in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LCW report sheds light on the reality of Libyan women, including the challenges they face today, including violence against women and discrimination against them. The report also provides practical recommendations to improve the situation of Libyan women and strengthen their rights in all fields.<\/gwmw><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is noteworthy that the State of Libya has not been able to provide any information or responses to the inquiries of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women since 2009, reflecting the extent of the challenges facing human rights organisations working in Libya.<\/gwmw><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The submission of this report is an important step towards reviving the dialogue on women’s rights in Libya at the international level and calling on the international community to take concrete steps to support the efforts of Libyan women in achieving their full rights.<\/gwmw><\/p>\n\n\n\n
