Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) monitored the killing of Mahmoud Aoun Al-Farjani, an employee at the Security and Safety Department of the Benghazi Medical Centre, on Monday, 27 October 2025, as a result of injuries sustained from torture during his detention by the Public Morality Protection Agency – Benghazi Branch, which operates under the Ministry of Interior of the government accredited by the House of Representatives (HoR).

A video circulated on social media and verified by LCW’s field team showed clear signs of torture on the victim’s body, which caused renal and circulatory failure leading to his death.

LCW holds the authorities in eastern Libya fully legally responsible for this crime, which falls within a recurring pattern of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment that has, in numerous cases, resulted in extrajudicial killings inside detention facilities.

LCW calls on the Libyan Attorney General to immediately open an independent and transparent investigation into this crime, ensure that all those responsible are held accountable in accordance with international fair trial standards, and take concrete measures to prevent the recurrence of such violations.
