On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Libya Crimes Watch documented the serious injury of a man in the neck by a stray bullet near Al Damman Street in the city of Al Zawiya, coinciding with clashes using light and medium weapons between fuel and drug smuggling gangs. A teacher at Al-Bukhnas School, located near the site of the clashes, was also injured by a bullet in the hand.

The violent clashes that took place in the middle of crowded streets caused panic and fear among the residents of the area, and the officials at Al-Bukhnas School were forced to stop the study and evacuate the school of students to preserve their safety.

LCW calls for a transparent and impartial investigation to identify those involved and responsible for endangering the lives of civilians, and to hold those responsible accountable under the law.

The Government of National Unity must also bear its responsibility for preserving lives and take strict measures and procedures to protect civilians, educational, residential and service facilities during armed conflict.
