Enforced disappearances remain a persistent stain on Libya’s human rights landscape, with armed groups targeting those expressing political views or exercising civil activism. As Libya moves towards elections, this practice escalates, creating a climate of fear and hindering fair participation.
The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances is addressing this issue with a thematic study to be presented in September 2024. Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) has contributed significantly by submitting a report detailing the connection between elections and enforced disappearances in Libya.
