Libya Crimes Watch (LCW) has documented the death of political activist Siraj Dagman Fakhruddin, 35 years old, under unknown circumstances today, Friday, April 19, at an unofficial prison located within the headquarters of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces in Al-Rajma, southeast of Benghazi, His family was informed of the death this morning by the security authorities.

Dagman was the director of the Benghazi branch of the Libya Research Centre for Strategic And Future Studies, and was one of the arbitrary detainees held in the Internal Security Agency prison since October 1, 2023, after being detained along with four other activists: Fathi Al-Baajjah, Tariq Al-Bishari, Nasser Al-Daisi, and Salem Al-Araibi, based on reports submitted against them regarding their activities and holding meetings that discussed the political situation and elections in Libya. Recently, his family received news of their transfer to Al-Rajma prison without being referred to the judiciary.

LCW calls on the Libyan Attorney General to open a comprehensive and independent investigation into the circumstances of Siraj Dagman’s death to disclose its results, and hold accountable those responsible for his arbitrary detention and death. LCW also calls on the authorities in eastern Libya to immediately release his arbitrarily detained comrades unconditionally.
